For [some] designers, seasonless dressing brings about a whole new way of thinking. “Dressing in general has changed,”says Tawfik Mounayer. “We are in a global world now. You can be in Los Angeles one minute and Paris the next. People aren’t so stationary anymore. And with the weather changing all over, the idea of seasons is old. People just wear what works for them regardless.” Mounayer’s newest looks feature lots of linen and cotton canvas fabrics, natural, easy shapes and a focus on print detail. Printed box dresses are designed with interlocking boxes in bright colors and white linen one-piece rompers with bikini bottoms are easy to swing on with tennis shorts. “Resort clothes should be easy and comfortable, regardless of the season,” the designers say. To complement the currently evolving process of everyday dressing, Mounayer emphasizes whites, creams and layers primary colors such as red, yellow and beautiful greens on top. Says the designer, “I used colors that were very pure in essence. I love color, and I get excited about wearing it when I think of spring and summer because we wear dark colors all winter.” Mounayer is also inspired by the Brigitte Nielsen woman. “She’s tough and glamorous, with slicked back hair and the right lipstick. She’s tough but feminine, and women want to feel feminine.” He adds leather and lace into his line for an industrial yet whimsical romantic look. His goal this season is to inspire women and help them feel better in these stressful times because, he says, that’s what the world needs.
